Raised in Seattle and Anchorage, Alaska, Peter Gaffney has lived, taught and performed in San Francisco, New York, London, Prague, Paris, Philadelphia, and is Artist in Residence at Leonrodhaus für Kunst in Munich. In addition to co-founding and directing Philadelphia’s celebrated vaudeville theater Cabaret Red Light (2008-2011), he has served at various times as artistic director, music director, composer, writer and designer on twenty-five original musical productions, with nearly two hundred performances in Philadelphia, Baltimore and New York. More recently Peter has worked as composer and music director for BRAT Productions’ Rock and Awe, The Last Plot in Revenge, and was lead artist and composer for BRAT’s bouffon rock show, The Future. His bunraku play on the life of composer Carlo Gesualdo (Gesualdo in Heaven), which premiered last February, is scheduled to tour in summer of 2015. Upcoming projects include two new productions with OBIE Award winning playwright John Clancy (Metro City, Les Agents Provocateurs), and Till the Last Breath with Krakow-based actor Paweł Strumiński.

Educated at Stanford and Oxford Universities, Peter also teaches philosophy and cinema, French and Italian, and was nominated for the Michelle Kendrick Memorial Book Prize in 2011 for his work on philosopher Gilles Deleuze (The Force of the Virtual: Deleuze, Science and Philosophy).
